Modernisation and Development of Information, Consulting and Training Electronic Services for Integrated Plant Protection

About the innovation / research
IKMIS is the Integrated Plant Protection Information, Consulting and Training Information System designed for farmers, advisers and other participants in the agricultural sector. During the implementation of Project No. 02-086-P-0002 in 2023–2026, the system was substantially modernised and expanded. The aim of the modernisation was to improve the accuracy, reliability and relevance of forecasting and modelling data on the spread of harmful organisms throughout Lithuania, automate user alerts, and introduce new functionalities and technical solutions. The modernised IKMIS includes an expanded network of meteorological stations, integrates meteorological and spatial data, and links these data with disease and pest forecasting modules. The system uses mathematical models to assess the probability of disease or pest occurrence and helps users evaluate risks in a timely manner. An automated warning system for the risk of harmful organism spread and a soil monitoring database were developed; information and recommendations on the use of plant protection products were updated and expanded; data on quarantine pests and plant varieties were added; and the section on integrated harmful organism control principles was renewed. Unmanned aerial vehicles and other measurement solutions are also used to improve the accuracy and timeliness of information. IKMIS provides access to monitoring and recommendations on plant diseases, pests and weeds, catalogues of plant protection products and harmful organisms, information on integrated harmful organism control, and e-learning. Following modernisation, the system moves from passive data monitoring towards active decision support: users can identify risks earlier, assess field conditions and select appropriate actions. This creates conditions for using plant protection products only when they are needed, using farm resources more efficiently and reducing negative environmental impacts.
