Boosting 4 BEST practices for SOIL health in Europe (BEST4SOIL)

About the innovation / research
Best4Soil developed an open-access practical knowledge system for farmers and advisers to help maintain and improve soil health and reduce the risks associated with soil-borne diseases and nematodes. The project collected, structured and brought together practical information from various European sources on compost use, cover crops, biosolarisation, anaerobic soil disinfestation and crop rotation. Two open-access databases were developed: one on soil-borne fungal pathogens and another on nematodes. They cover 70 agricultural crops, 137 species of soil-borne pathogens and 32 nematode species. The tools help farmers and advisers assess crop susceptibility and select more appropriate crop rotations to reduce the risk of harmful organism outbreaks and associated damage.
