Project goals
The implementation of innovations by demonstrating, under Lithuanian conditions, the use of bio-preparations composed of two different essential oils (thyme (Thymus spp.) and clove (Syzygium spp.)) to reduce the population of the bee pest V. destructor, increasing honey productivity and improving its quality.

Target group
Persons engaged in agriculture, food production, and forestry.

Detailed summary
Beekeeping in Lithuania is suffering losses due to varroasis, a disease caused by the Varroa destructor mite. These mites weaken the bees, spread disease, and impair their ability to overwinter, making their control essential. The chemical acaricides currently used can harm the environment, bee products, and the health of beekeepers. Natural alternatives are being sought—biopreparations made from thyme and clove essential oils—that can reduce mite populations, strengthen bee colonies, and improve the quality of honey production.
